Terrain:
Dos Rios Ranch is a premium North Texas recreational, hunting, and cattle ranch! From the beautiful views from the ranch house of the irrigated fields below to the many shaded hollow areas along the steep red bluffs, there are so many great attributes to this river ranch. For a ranch of this size, the Dos Rios Ranch has an enormous amount of river frontage including 4+ miles of Red River frontage and 1.25 miles of Pease River Frontage! Due to the changing vegetation throughout the Red River bottom land, the thick hardwood lined bluffs, heavy mesquite and underbrush, and the food plot areas, wildlife of all sorts are found throughout the property. It is very common to see large numbers of whitetail deer and turkey on the winter wheat fields that follow the contour of the river. These deer travel from the dense hardwood thickets that line the bottom land and the tall grassy meadows with scattered plum thickets and other underbrush which extend to the riverbank. The large hardwood thickets and groves are also home to flocks of Rio Grande Turkey. It is not uncommon to see groups of turkey coming to and from their roosting home. The hardwood areas on the Pease and the Red River are comprised of hackberry, cottonwood, chinaberry groves, elm, mesquite, and a few scattered cedar trees. The large tree groves and thick hollow areas offer perfect bow hunting opportunities. Wildlife trails are very common throughout these dense areas and it would be easy to view game at close range. Cattle do extremely well on the ranch with the sub-irrigated bottom land and irrigable cultivated wheat pasture fields. The ranch is cross-fenced into several pastures to maximize grazing potential and concentrate grazing in certain areas of the ranch depending on the time of year. In normal conditions and with proper management, the Dos Rios Ranch will accommodate approximately 150-200 pair. There are 10 large watering troughs scattered across the ranch to enable easy access to fresh water for livestock and wildlife. Waterfowl hunting is absolutely amazing on Dos Rios Ranch due to the large amounts of surface water and the prime flyway location at the confluence of the Pease and Red Rivers. It is not uncommon during the winter to see thousands of ducks in this area. There is also the ability to flood future hunting areas with the existing irrigation wells. All along the hardwood lined red bluffs are several large year-round spring fed pools and seeps that continually keep fresh water easily accessible for wildlife and livestock. These natural features could easily be deepened or customized into a particular duck slough or pond. Hiking, exploring, four wheeling, artifact hunting, bow fishing, and horseback riding are a few other recreational activities that are ready to be enjoyed at the Dos Rios Ranch!
