Lodge Creek Rancg

Location & Access

Lodge Creek Ranch sits in southern Clay County near the Jack County line. The ranch is accessed by graveled Copeland and Gasoline Alley county roads. It is approximately a 1.4-hour drive from Fort Worth and about 2 hours from Dallas.

Terrain & Land Character

The ranch sits in the transition zone between mesquite and post oak country, which gives it a lot of variety in cover, terrain, and timber. The terrain is primarily rolling, with some areas showing more dramatic elevation changes, rock outcroppings, and heavy hardwood timber. The north and west sides are mostly heavy bull mesquite thickets with a few clearings throughout. These thickets provide excellent cover and canopy. When winter wheat is planted in the food plots during colder months, it is common to see over 75 deer on the ranch. Whitetail in this area are known to run in the 130 to 180 class. The eastern and southern sides are covered in heavy post oaks and scattered hackberry trees. The rolling terrain through these oaks is well suited for bow hunting setups and holds natural turkey roosts. Both food plots on the ranch draw deer heavily at first and last light. Lodge Creek is a winding, rock-lined wet-weather creek that runs through the southeast portion of the ranch. It flows for a few days after rainfall. Several senderos along the creek were previously cut to open shooting lanes in the dense timber and to improve wildlife viewing. The creek also holds several pools of water that provide a reliable water source for wildlife and cattle through most of the year.

Water Features

The ranch has four stocked ponds, and each one looks and feels different from the others. Three of the ponds are rock-lined, with large rocks forming parts of the dams. That rock structure gives the ponds a natural look and also provides good fish habitat. Two of the larger ponds are fed by water wells year-round, so they hold a good water level and stay fresh. Through most of the year, the pond water runs a dark blue color, which is a good sign for fish health and growth. The wet-weather creek and its pools add additional water for livestock and wildlife.

Improvements

The main camp area is privately located near the center of the ranch and is accessed by two graveled entrance roads. The area around camp is clean and well kept. Structures and infrastructure include: a 1,500 sq ft metal home with one bedroom and one bath and an open-concept kitchen and living area; a metal storage barn with three overhead doors; a metal horse shed; excellent steel cattle corrals; a cedar-lined interior and exterior container at the main camp area that works well for overflow lodging or storage; and multiple premium deer blind and feeder setups. The ranch has four water wells, two electric and two solar. Perimeter fencing is in good to excellent condition. The interior road system is well laid out. The west entrance gate is lined with cedar staves. There are two steel entrance gates total. Three established food plot areas are in place.

Wildlife & Recreation

The ranch carries whitetail deer, Rio Grande turkey, ducks, dove, bobwhite quail, and wild hogs. Deer in this part of Clay County are known to run in the 130 to 180 class, and the combination of mesquite cover on the north and west with post oak timber on the south and east gives wildlife a lot of ground to work with year-round. The ponds offer good fishing. The ranch has been managed and cared for over many years and is set up and ready for hunting and outdoor use.
