Ellis County sits in the heart of North Central Texas, roughly 30 miles south of Dallas along the I-35E corridor. Terrain and Vegetation
The county runs mostly flat to gently rolling, with fertile blackland prairie soils dominating the eastern portions and post oak transitional ground showing up toward the west. Ranching and Agricultural Production
Ellis County has long been cattle and hay country. The deep, moisture-retaining blackland clays support strong coastal bermuda production, and many tracts carry cow-calf operations with minimal inputs. Water availability from these drainages and on-site ponds generally supports livestock operations without the need for significant infrastructure investment.
Proximity and Access
Waxahachie serves as the county seat and offers full services - feed stores, equipment dealers, medical facilities, and solid schools. Ennis and Midlothian round out the county's commercial base. The DFW Metroplex is within a 45-minute drive from most of the county, which makes Ellis County a realistic option for buyers wanting a weekend place or rural homesite without a long haul from the city.
