Wise County sits on the southern edge of the Cross Timbers region, roughly 35 miles northwest of Fort Worth. Hunting
Whitetail deer are the primary game animal, and the Cross Timbers habitat produces quality bucks with consistent hunting pressure managed on private ground. Feral hogs are widespread and offer year-round opportunity. Rio Grande turkeys are present, particularly in the more timbered eastern portions of the county. Waterfowl hunters use the Bridgeport Lake corridor and farm pond country to good effect during migration seasons.

Ranching and Agriculture
Cow-calf operations are the backbone of agriculture in Wise County. The native and improved pastures carry decent stocking rates when managed properly, and many tracts run a combination of cattle and hay production. Coastal bermuda and native grass mixes are both common. Smaller tracts appeal to buyers running a few head of stocker cattle or maintaining horses, while larger ranches support commercial beef operations.
